The narrow, rectangular writing box decorated on the lid in black lacquer ending in an irregular edge at the lower right in a section of lattice inlaid in mother-of-pearl, pewter and copper wire which continues onto the lower portion of the box, the underside of the lid additionally decorated with a brown lacquer bag of flowers suspended from a gold lacquer 'bamboo' pole on which crawls a black lacquer insect; fitted with a copper and cloisonné enamel mizuire and two brushes in black lacquer cases and inkstone--8¼ x 4 7/8 x 1in. (20.9 x 12.5 x 2.6cm.)
