Cassatt varied her inking of the mother's skirt throughout this edition. Some impressions, as here, show an uneven coloration reminiscent of monotype, whereas in others the skirt is colored more uniformly and extends to the bottom of the plate. Mathews and Shapiro located only seven impressions in the final state.
