Lot Essay

We are grateful to Wilhelmina Corinth-Klopfer for confirming the attribution of the drawing. The German inscription on the verso of the drawing is translated: 'That I was armed from childhood against critics. And he who is without quiet may throw the first stone at me. But despite this I will continue to write, and I will always paint. The critics may do what they want, but if something needs to be criticized so let it be my writing rather than my art, because I want to develop and produce something good!'
