A SILK-ON-LINEN NEEDLEWORK SAMPLER, signed Anne Arrundell, dated 1761, worked in ivory, green, blue, yellow, and olive silk threads in a variety of stitches with an alphabetic sequence above the wrought verse "If well thou art Rise soon Each Day/First Praise thy god Then to him pray" above an alphabetic and numerical sequence over a wrought central tree of Life flanked by Adam and Eve, dogs, flowers, baskets of fruit and the verse, "The Lord is only my/support and he that doth Me feed how can then lack anything where of stand in need " and the verse," My God my life my/love to the to he call I cannot live of thou Remove for thou art all in all" all above the wrought identification, "Mark Arrundell anne arrundell LA/Made this piece in the 13 year of her/age and in the year of our Lord 1761", the whole within a meandering vine and rose bud border--13½ x 10½in.
