1946 LINCOLN CONTINENTAL CABRIOLET
Chassis No. H141516

For three years, during the war Lincoln and Mercury had dedicated production to building tank engines, jeeps and other wartime machinery. In late 1945 passenger car production resumed and the automotive industry's post war model production began. Production of the 1946 Lincoln and Lincoln Continentals commenced on November 1, 1945. During the calendar year of 1945 a total of 569 Lincolns were produced, all of which were designated 1946 models. By the end of 1946 there were 13,496 units built, 265 which were Lincoln Continentals and a mere 201 which were the Lincoln Continental Covertible. The Continental was the most expensive car Ford produced that year at $4,474. Its beautiful styling made it immediately popular and it was the official pace car of the Indianapolis 500.
At the start, Lincoln tried placing "new" larger 2.93-inch bore engines, 130 horsepower and 305 cubic inch displacement within the Continental but these engines provided so much trouble that Lincoln returned to the "old" Series H engine of 292 cubic inches, 2.87-inch bore, and 120 horsepower. This Lincoln has the preferred "old" series H engine which is reflected in the chassis number of the car.
This particular Lincoln has just over 53,000 miles which is believed to be genuine. As one of the prettiest American cars of the post-War period, the 1946 Lincoln Continental played an important part of the Rosenblatt Collection. This example was restored approximately 20 years ago and presents itself as a very sound car and indeed Mr. Rosenblatt liked to drive this car during the summer months. Cosmetically the paint is presentable but does have some crazing on close examination. The interior trim and beige hood are all in good condition. The Lincoln comes equipped with a drivers spot lamp, exhaust heater, jack, rear mounted spare and top boot.
