18TH/19TH CENTURY
The thirty-two ivory chess pieces of 'drum' shape with concave upper and lower surfaces and rounded sides, each carved with a single encircled character, picked out in red or black, fitting neatly into the yellow cypress (huangbai) box of simple rectangular form with sliding cover, the ivory with an attractive patina, wear to the corners of the box
