JUDGE HOPKINSON CLAIMS HIS JUDGE'S SALARY FROM THE STATE OF PENNSYLVANIA

Hopkinson, an author and ardent supporter of independence, had served in Congress as a New Jersey delegate from June 1776, but at the date of this document, was a judge of the Admiralty Court in Pennsylvania. He formally requests his salary: "I have the Honour to enclose [not present] a certified account of fees received by me in the last Quarter ending the 13th Instant; and request a Warrant on the Treasury for Twenty five Pounds, on Account of Salary..."
