AN IRON-BROWN-DECORATED JAR
choson dynasty (18th century)

The large lantern-form jar of compressed globular form with angled walls rising from the high ring foot to the rolled neck with slanted inner rim, painted in underglaze iron-brown with a single dragon encircling the body of the jar amidst large scalloped clouds; the jar covered on the exterior and interior save the foot by a greyish white glaze with even high gloss and dense crackle, kiln grit within recessed base--11½in. (29.2cm.) high, 12½in. (31.8cm.) diameter, chip to foot
