Of rounded rectangular shape decorated in togidashi, hiramaki-e, and various inlays on an orange lacquer ground, one side with three poets composing verses beside a stream, on the reverse young attendants plucking a sake cup from the water with a pole, a Japanese recreation of the Rantei kyokusui or "Gathering at the Lanting Pavillion," figures of inlaid mother-of-pearl and ivory, the banks of the stream embellished with kirigane, interior cases nashiji, decorated with butterflies on the risers, signed on the bottom in an inlaid mother-of-pearl rectangular reserve; fitted with a carved wood ojime and a red lacquer ryusa netsuke--4in.
