Lot Essay

The Série Anglaise was published in London by Rodwell and Martin, where Géricault worked on the production of the series with Hullmandel, the leading contemporary lithographer in London. Consisting of a frontispiece and twelve lithographs, they represent both a high point in the artist's graphic oeuvre and also a peak of technical achievement. The second, beige, tint stone is rarely seen (see Christie's London, Hans Bühler Collection, 15th November 1985, lot 101 for another impression with this tint stone).
