A YOUNG PATTON AT WEST POINT

A chatty letter from Patton, in his third year at West Point: "I hope your feet are all well or at least getting so fast and I suppose they are. I certainly am not much as a linguist for I succeeded in occupying the same place in spanish as I formally [sic] did in French, but tell pa not to worry...I got quite reckless yeterday and sent for some $12 worth of books on Tactics etc which I intend to read on the train going home; they have to come from England so will not get here until the latter part of March. I expect to take the rest of my course here to read them as when you only read on saturday you forget during the week what you have read and have to begin over. It is very cold here now and has ranged from 8 to ten below every morning for a week and at last the river is frozen. I am still wearing summer under clothes and find them much better than the winter ones and I believe they are more healthy. I suppose there are lots of tourists at home now and that Pa will get rich soon. I suppose Nita is still breaking hearts with all her might and enjoying it. We are going to have a Yale man named Farbes for...coach next year and hope to kill those middies..."
