Sir William Osler (1849-1919) was physician-in-chief at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore from 1889 to 1905. This photograph is likely from this period when he was also a professor of medicine at Johns Hopkins University. The gentleman seated beside Osler might possibly be the German bacteriologist, Paul Ehrlich, who was at Johns Hopkins working during this period.
