A Dutch Walnut and Marquetry longcase clock case
First quarter 18th century
The case formed of three parts; the plinth with ebonised mouldings and inlaid to the front with a picturesque scene of a walled city in the background two huntsmen in the foreground wearing traditional hats and with their guns slung over their shoulders, the left side depicting a hunt with the walled town in the background and two figures in the act of bludgeoning a beast about to attack one of the huntsmen, the right side with the walled city and featuring a man and his dog with a prancing horse within a rectangular panel with floral spandrels, the main trunk door comprising one long rectangular panel divided into four sections of floral marquetry and centred by a wall city with figures in foreground, the left side with similar floral panels centred by a panel depicting the city with a barrel outside its gates and a gentleman atop his horse riding away, the right hand side with similar floral panels with a central scene of the walled city with a dog barking at a beggar in the foreground, the hood with simple floral marquetry to the glazed front and side doors and surmounted by a pierced ebonised wood moulded top; movement lacking
