ENCIRCLED KANGXI SIX-CHARACTER MARK AND OF THE PERIOD

Finely painted and enamelled with pairs of dragons and phoenixes picked out in soft tones of green, yellow, aubergine, and iron-red reserved on a dense leaf-filled ground of peonies, poppies, morning glories and chrysanthemum (restored rim)
14 3/8 in. (36.5 cm.) diam., box

Lot Essay

The dish is exceptionaly well painted and unusual as the floral meander is so lush and dense. It is unusual to find doucai dishes painted in this style, and the design appears to be inspired by similarly decorated Kangxi-marked blue and white chargers.
