The ovoid body with high rounded shoulders rising to a short neck and lipped rim, the base with two detached peony sprays, the blooms painted in mottled raspberry-red tones and the leaves and branches picked out in green and brown enamels

Compare with a related Kangxi-marked water pot, illustrated by Krahl, Chinese Ceramics from the Meiyintang Collection, Vol. II, no. 717, p. 111; one in the Baur Collection, Geneva, is illustrated by Ayers, 1968-1974, Vol. IV, no. A539; from the Palace Museum, Peking, is illustrated in Kangxi, Yongzheng, Qianlong, pl. 24; and yet another is illustrated in Qingdai Taoci Daquan, p. 78.
