Lot Essay

Dishes of this design bearing Jiajing marks are extremely rare. Compare with a similarly-decorated dish previously from the Reach Collection, illustrated by Krahl, Chinese Ceramics from the Meiyintang Collection, Vol. 2, pl. 684; another in the National Palace Museum, Taibei, is illustrated by Liu Liang-yu, Ming Official Wares, A Survey of Chinese Ceramics, Vol. 4, p. 207.

For a Hongzhi version of a similar design, see the one from the Jingguantang Collection, 3 November 1997, lot 874.
