This chair is a good example of the most elaborate and substantial of the splat-back Windsor armchairs produced by High Wycombe by firms such as Glenister and Gibbons in the second half of 19th Century. A page from the above mentioned firm's catalogue is illustrated in B. D. Cotton, The English Regional Chair, Woodbridge, 1990, p. 95, fig. TV223.
