AN 'AMARNA' PAINTED LIMESTONE STELE FRAGMENT OF THE ROYAL FAMILY
LATE DYNASTY XVIII, MID-REIGN OF AKHENATEN, CIRCA 1340 B.C.
With scene of the royal couple Akhenaten and Nefertiti, wearing elaborate sandals, her arms upraised in adoration, an inscription to the right reading "The wife of the King Nefer-nefer-Aten, Nefer (titi), may she live for ever", and behind them their eldest daughter Meritaten, wearing youthful side-lock, whose title and name are given in the column above

This relief probably comes from a private chapel dedicated to Aten at Amarna. A stele from the Kestner Museum, Hannover (inv. 1970, 22) is almost identical and complete, enabling a reconstruction of this scene to be made.
