Each with a shell-carved eared cresting above a rectangular back with an interlaced pierced splat over a bowed padded drop-in seat covered in floral fabric above a rocaille-carved seat-rail, on rocaille-headed cabriole legs with claw-and-ball feet (4)

Lot Essay

The combination of dynamic rocaille carving, the undulating profile of the crestrail, and claw-and-ball foot of these chairs closely relate them to Brazilian chairs of the mid-18th century, such as an example illustrated in T. Caldi, Il Mvel no Brasil, Rio de Janiero, 1985, p. 273, pl. 242.
