Each with a rectangular plate in a moulded slip and a frame with a continuous frieze of Classical ornament, the top with winged mythological animals flanking a central roundel and issuing scrolling foliage to a pair of swans in each corner, the swans above scrolling foliage and flowers, urns, mythological beasts and birds, the base with a central bucranium flanked by scrolling foliage and mythological beasts, refreshments to the gilding, previously with a cresting

Lot Essay

A similar pier glass, attributed to Luigi Antonio del Buttero and made for the Palazzo Carandini, Modena, in 1825, was executed to the designs of 'Sig. Prof. Gusamano Soli' in the late 18th Century Milanese taste (E. Colle, Il Mobile Impero in Italia, Milano, 1998, p. 336, cat. 110).
