A Siegburg dated pewter-mounted schnelle

Probably by Hans Hilgers, of slender tapering form with twisted loop handle, moulded with two coats-of-arms of a man and a woman with the date 1582 within circular rope-twist medallions above three double-headed eagles each with the date 1573 and with the Order of the Golden Fleece suspended below, indistinctly moulded with the initials HH, the hinged pewter cover with entwined ball thumbpiece (two minute chips to rim and slight crack to edge of handle)

Johann Hilgers Kntgen, known as Hans Hilgers produced dated and initialled wares from 1570 until the 1590's.
