A RARE BRONZE FIGURE OF GUANYIN
13TH/14TH CENTURY

Cast seated in ardhaparyankasana with one leg resting on a lotus socle, the right knee bent with the foot facing the opposite thigh, the right hand in vitarka mudra and left hand in varada mudra, the full face with eyes gracefully downcast, the hair swept back into a topknot behind an ornate headdress, fastened at the sides issuing strands of hair falling over each shoulder, the pendulous ears weighted by pendent earrings, above an elaborate beaded necklace across the torso, edges of the dhoti incised with a floral-pattern, fastened at the waist with a belt and ribbons, the lower garment suspending beaded chains around the knees (losses to tip of headdress)
