Lot Essay

The first inscription reads Wanli Dingyou Chun San Yue Cangshi Mi Zhongzhao You Shi, indicating the third month (Spring) of Dingyou Year, the equivalent to A.D. 1597, Wanli era; Mi Zhongzhao is a rock collector, whose seal, You Shi, ends this section. The second incription consists of two of Emperor Qianlong's seals, Shen Pin and Qianlong Yuwan. The third inscription, Xu Shi Zhen Cang Bingzi Nian Dong Zhi, Di Er Shi Yi Shi Jiang Shi Ren Shi Si, mentions that this is the 21st of 40 scholar's rocks in the Xu family collection.
