Very little is known on the miniaturist Bouelle, or Boelle, who is recorded by Lo R. Schidlof as working in France in the late 18th century. According to Schidlof, "it is astonishing that so gifted an artist has left no trace" (See The Miniature in Europe, vol. 1, Graz, 1964, p. 101).
