The movement with maker's mark of Frres Rochat; the case with maker's mark AM, Geneva, circa 1815
Rectangular with rounded corners, the top, oval cover, and borders finely chiselled with scrolling foliage against a velvet-matted ground, the sides and base with engine-turned panels within borders, the back with hinged key compartment, the oval hinged cover surrounded by a border of split pearls and opening to a trellis-engraved field with blued-steel screws and a hatch for the bird; the going-barrel jewelled movement playing three songs, the movement marked FR in oval punch and numbered 285; the case marked AM in incuse lozenge
