A SWISS GILT-METAL SINGING BIRD BOX
Geneva, mid-19th century
Rectangular, the surface engined-turned, the cover chased with scrolling foliage and inset with an oval enamel hinged panel painted with a mountainscape within chevron border and opening to reveal a singing bird with moving head, beak, and wings, the side with a band of diamonds enclosed in medallions and the base with an oval panel enclosing a flower spray, with key, in original leather case stamped A. GOULAY LERESCHE & FILS GENVE, Rue de la Paix 2 PARIS, apparently unmarked
