Two versions of a life portrait from a single sitting; the larger extending almost to the subject's waist and revealing additional details like a circular watch or medallion worn on Freud's vest. This version "was on display at Freud's house in Vienna, and was photographed there by Engelmann shortly before the Freud's left Vienna for London in 1938" (Norman).
