This writing-table with its elegant reeded legs and top is closely related to the designs and documented output of the firm of Gillows of London and Lancaster. An extensive documented commission of furniture supplied by the firm to William Powlett, 2nd Baron Bolton in 1813 for Hackwood Park, Hampshire was sold Christie's House sale, 20-22 April 1998 and included a very similar writing-table (lot 366 in the sale).
The drawer bears the stamp of W.Williamson & Sons who is recorded working in Guildford, Surrey from 1790-1840. A number of quality pieces bear this stamp, some of which pre-date the firm's recorded dates, and therefore suggests a role as a retailer or restorer.
