Franois Boucher, born in Paris in 1703, was a very sought-after painter and received commissions from Louis XV and Madame de Pompadour. From 1736 on, he devoted himself to genre painting, in which he became a true master. The artist's favourite topics were nevertheless Amorini and Fêtes Champêtres and Madame Boucher often posed as a model for her husband. In 1755 he was named director of the Royal Gobelins Tapestry Mill, and in 1736 'first painter of the King'. In 1765 he became director of the Académie Royale.
