George Frederick Blackburn was born at Willesden Green, London on 8th March 1899 and joined Aston Villa as an amatuer in December 1920 from Hampstead Town. He turned professional the following January and won his only honour with the club (the above F.A. Cup runners-up medal) in 1924. He joined Cardiff City in 1926 and won the Welsh Cup with them in 1927 and 1930. Thereafter there were periods with Mansfield Town, Cheltenham Town, Moore Green and Birmingham F.C. as a trainer from 1937 to 1946. He made his only appearance for England at full International level in 1924.
