Siberechts, born in Antwerp, travelled to Italy circa 1650, and settled in London in 1672, where he was to remain until his death. He drew a large number of English views during this period. Carlos van Hasselt was the first to attribute this drawing to Siberechts (loc. cit.). The present lot can be compared to a number of similar landscape drawings by the artist, all of which were once presumably part of an album.
