An Imari baluster jar
Early 18th Century
The baluster sides decorated in black, iron-red and gilt on underglaze blue with four shaped panels enclosing flowering chrysanthemum or peony, reserved on a karakusa scroll ground repeated on the cylindrical neck, the sloping shoulder with phoenix forming ruyi-shaped panels on an underglaze-blue ground enriched with flower-heads (surface chip to the side restuck and gilded)
