Victor Peter (Paris, 1840-1918) is perhaps best-known as a landscape painter, but he also was a sculptor, especially of small animal bronzes. He started exhibiting at the Salon from 1868 onwards and he was awarded the Légion d'Honneur in 1900. Another version of this group is in the Museum of Cahors.
