TWO KAKIEMON STYLE UNDERGLAZE BLUE DISHES
Edo Period (Late 17th Century)
The first dish decorated in iron-red, green, blue and black enamels on underglaze blue, the centre with sprays of peonies growing among rockwork and bamboo within a roundel bordered by a continuous band of peonies and irises emerging from rockwork; the second decorated in iron-red, green, blue, yellow and black enamels on underglaze blue with a landscape in a roundel depicting boats on a river beneath a bridge, with two figures walking in a mountainous landscape with pine and a willow, the roundel bordered by a continuous band of peonies, pomegranates, hibiscus and plum blossom growing among rockwork
