A Suzuribako And Matching Bunko
Meiji Period (Late 19th/early 20th Century)
Each decorated with willow, flowering cherry and yamabuki [yellow rose], bamboo, ivy and flowering plants on the ground beneath, the interior of each cover shows yellow rose and bamboo on the bank of a rushing stream, the decoration carried out in takamakie, with tsunegaki, kinpun, ginpun, heidatsu, kakiwari and kirikane of gold and a few additional squares of aogai, all applied on a rich nashiji ground, the suzuribako contains three trays, one with a suzuri and a silver and gilt suiteki in the form of a mass of yellow rose blooms, each tray decorated with vine, bamboo and flowering plants, the upper and lower edges of each box with a gold fundame-lacquered champfer with a decoration of pine and karakusa
