Oblong 4° (258 x 417mm). Additional lithographic title with aquatint vignette, 32 full-page hand-coloured aquatint views after J.J. Meyer by Hegi, Rordorf, Meichel and Bodmer, numbered 1-30 and 7b and 25b, 5 lithographic key plates, one small key plate to plate 7b (but not to 25b), folding hand-coloured map by H.Keller. (Some very light browning.) Original orange stipple paper boards (very slightly chipped at extremities), original blue pasteboard slipcase with printed title and issue (ausgemaltes Exemplar) labels (very slightly worn). Provenance: Braundorff (written on front flyleaf).
A VERY FINE COPY of the de luxe issue. The work was issued in three states: with black-and-white plates, with aquatints, and with the plates fully hand-coloured. The present copy is a fine example of the grandest state. Ebel's work on the canton of Graubndten was first issued in 1525 in 5 parts. Once complete, it was re-issued in 1526 under the title Die Bergstrassen durch den canton Graubndten with two additional aquatints and a further 3 pages of errata. The present copy has the letterpress title of the first edition with the date altered by hand to 1526, the additional two plates, and the errata of the first edition, occupying 2, not 5, pages.
