2° (319 x 218mm). Table in italic, text in roman type, shoulder notes. Full-page engraved map of Scandinavia and neighbouring countries, 467 woodcut scenes (with repeats), printer's device on title and final verso. (A few neat tears repaired, occasional minor staining, small hole in final leaf touching device and one letter.) Modern vellum, title lettered on spine.

FIRST EDITION in Italian. Magnus's great ethnographical and geographical survey of Scandinavia was first published in Latin in 1555. This Italian translation re-uses the woodcuts, with a few variations, illustrating all aspects of life (local customs, warfare, trades and occupations, animals, hunting, daily activities), many of which were cut specifically for the first edition and all of which are integral to the text, being discussed by Magnus. The full-page map of Scandinavia, which was a woodcut in the Latin edition, is engraved here. Camerini, Giunti, 689; cf. Mortimer Harvard Italian 270.
