A LOUIS XV ORMOLU FIVE-LIGHT HALL LANTERN
With five serpentine-shaped bombé glazed panels within scrolled and arched moulded borders surmounted by a foliate and berried motif and flanked by a shell, supported by five S-scrolled branches with a domed dish, suspending a hanging twin-section branch with five scrolled branches and nozzles, drilled for electricity, one glass corner cracked
29½ in. (75 cm.) high; 18½ in. (47 cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

A very similar lantern with domed dish is illustrated in P. Verlet, Les Bronzes Dorés Franais du XVIIIe siècle, Cahors, 1987, p. 349, ill. 367, is recorded in the Grand Salon of the château de Montgeoffroy, Maine-et-Loire, since circa 1771.
