Each enamelled and gilt to the centre with a central coat-of-arms, the well with a spear-head band and the everted borders with floral sprays, one restored, one with base crack

Lot Essay

The arms are those of Salt and the service was made for Samuel Salt, Governor of the South Sea Company and M.P. for Liskeard, who died in 1792. See D. S. Howard, op.cit. p.389, where Mr. Howard illustrates another, slightly later, service for this family.
