Lieutenant Harrison, aide de camp to General Anthony Wayne, writing only a month before the decisive victory over the Ottawa, Chippewa, and Shawnee tribes at Fallen Timbers, boldly scrawls a requisition: "Return for two pounds of candles for the use of the guard, having charge of the prisoners. The contractors will issue agreably to the above return."
