[LINCOLN ASSASINATION]. A small section of woven carpet taken from the Presidential Box at Ford's Theatre, Washington, D.C. Approximately 25 x 80 mm. ( x 3.1/8 in.), laminated with the following -- Printed ticket for readmission to Ford's Theatre, Washington, D.C., 14 April 1865. 25 x 80 mm. (1 x 3.1/8 in.), orange-coated paper, with date of the performance in circular blind-stamp. Both relics were collected by George H. Bull, Co.H, 14th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry, posted to the capital district in 1865. Bull had apparently been called from convalescent camp and detailed for duty at the theater on the night of Lincoln's assissination. With a 1986 curator's letter confirming that the carpet fragment "conforms to the original...sample...in the holdings of the National Park Service at Ford's Theatre in Washington," and attesting to the authenticity and date stamped on the ticket.
