A 12-inch (30.5cm.) diameter terrestrial table globe made up of twelve hand-coloured engraved gores and two polar calottes, the equatorial graduated in days, degrees and hours, the ecliptic graduated in days of the month and of houses of the Zodiac, with symbols, the oceans with an analemma, numerous lines of variation and some trade winds denoted by arrows, a note beneath the cartouche reading The lines of Magnetic variation are adopted from Professor Peter Barlow's Chair in the transactions of the Royal Society for 1833, the continents finely detailed with nations delicately outlined in green, orange and red, the Antarctic with partial coastline and labelled with details such as MAGNETIC POLE Hereabout, Appearance of Land, Compact Ice, Cook's highest South Lat 1774 and Weddell's highest South Lat 1823, Tasmania labelled VAN DIEMEN Ld OR TASMANIA (severe cracks from mid-Africa to the eastern Pacific Ocean and to the North Pole, much surface discolouration and abrasions, some paper loss, old repair to the mid-Atlantic) with plain brass meridian half-circle (oxidised) on baluster turned fruitwood stand and plinth base -- 18in. (45.7cm.) high
