A 12-inch (30.5cm.) diameter celestial globe made up of two pairs of twelve delicately coloured engraved gores laid to the ecliptic poles, the equatorial graduated in degrees, the equinoctial and ecliptic graduated in days, the equinoctial labelled with the names of the months in Latin, the ecliptic labelled with symbols for the houses of the Zodiac, the stars to seven orders of magnitude, the constellations depicted by mythical figures, animals and scientific instruments (old surface abrasions and varnish loss, approx.½in. dent near southern ecliptic pole) with brass meridian circle engraved on one side and divided into four quadrants, fixed at the celestial poles, and engraved brass hour dial, mounted on a mahogany stand with four baluster-turned legs united by four cross stretchers, the papered horizon ring showing months and houses of the Zodiac (old abrasions) -- 17½in.
