A 10-inch (25.4cm.) diameter terrestrial table globe made up of twelve hand-coloured engraved gores and two polar calottes, the equator graduated in degrees, the ecliptic ungraduated, the oceans showing ocean currents, completed and projected cable routes, sail and steamship routes with ports of arrival and departure and journey time in days, areas of Établissements Franais en Océanie and labelled with details such as Limite moyenne des glaces in the southern Pacific, and Algues Flottantes in the northern Atlantic, the continents with nation states outlined in a variety of colours and showing details such as railway lines, executed and projected telegraph lines, and caravan routes, some Antarctic coastline shown with several volcanos labelled (old surface abrasions and discolouration with some paper loss), with stamped brass hour dial numbered 1-12 twice and labelled morning, evening, midday and midnight in French and Spanish, the engraved brass meridian circle and horizon ring each divided in four quadrants, with four iron quadrant supports to turned ebonized column and plinth base -- 19in. Alaska is shown as part of America and Cyprus is shown as independent of Britain, thus dating this most interesting and informative globe to between 1867, when Alaska was sold by Russia to America, and 1878, when Cyprus became British.
