A rare French gilt-brass and porcelain-mounted mignonnette carriage timepiece of lantern form

The case with loop suspension to the pyramidical top, with eight jewelled porcelain panels, those to the top with triangular reserves painted with flowers and those below with floral bouquets and swags, the dial with gilt minute track, painted to the centre with flying Cupid and below with an amorino with lyre, with blued spade hands, the single barrel movement with silvered platform to bimetallic balance with lever escapement, stamped on the backplate A. DUMAS and numbered 127; with original blue fabric-covered travel case and un-numbered key

COMPARATIVE LITERATURE
Two clocks of related design are illustrated in Derek Roberts Carriage and Other Travelling Clocks, Schiffer 1993, p.113, figs.6-53a,b and p.120, fig.7-7.
Lantern-shaped carriage clocks are rare. The purpose of this design is to show the maximum number of porcelain panels. A. Dumas specialized in producing high quality mignonnettes. See also lot 99.
