Album of thirty-seven albumen prints, the majority approx. 8 x 10 in. and hand-tinted, a few titled in the negatives, others titled in ink on mounts, cloth over boards, inscribed in ink on front cover from H.B.B. H.M.S. Immortalité, oblong 4to.

Lot Essay

Including a view of HMS Immortalité followed by a distant view of the China Squadron in Hakodate harbour; an avenue in Hakodate; portraits of the crew, 'one of the Inos chiefs', an Aino woman and a group of Ainos, seven other Japanese portraits, mostly women; the remainder views in Nikko, 'Futamata-Gawa', Nagasaki, Yumoto, Tokyo and finishing with HMS Immortalité at Nagasaki, firing a royal salute on the Queen's birthday, 1896.
