Lot Essay

A minor clash between the Japanese and Chinese troops near Pei-p'ing in 1937 finally led the two nations to war. This snapshot album documents scenes from the conflict and contains several shocking images of death, mutilation and torture; images of sinking battleships, views on board the H.M.S. Peterel, scenes of armies marching through the streets, an image of an unbandaged bound foot, views of destruction around the town, a few images of soldiers in action and a reproduction of a map of Yang Tse-Kiang.
