Three Indian Katars
18th/19th Century
The first with double-edged blade damascened with silver foliage on both sides, iron hilt with baluster grips and convex triangular knuckle-guard, the latter with chiselled monster-head finial, and decorated overall with silver-damascened foliage involving two grotesques on the guard, in velvet-covered wooden scabbard with silvered brass locket (incomplete) pierced with foliage; the second with watered double-edged blade reinforced towards the point and cut with a medial ridge and fullers on each side, iron hilt of characteristic form encrusted with brass lines and foliage, and later gold- and silver-damascened scabbard with velvet-covered liner, each side pierced with birds and foliage; the last with expanding blade decorated at the forte with gold- and silver-damascened foliage, the iron hilt decorated en suite, in textile-covered wooden scabbard
