A Moroccan Nimcha, An Ottoman Shamshir, And An Arab Shamshir
The first 17th Century, the second 19th Century
The first with slightly curved fullered blade, characteristic horn hilt inlaid with two silver stars on each side of the flattened pommel, silver collar, and iron knuckle-guard made in one with the side-ring and downcurved rear quillon, in leather-covered wooden scabbard (damaged and recovered): the second with earlier slightly curved fullered blade double-edged towards the point, the forte etched with a sun and stars on one side and a moon and stars on the other, and characteristic hilt with rounded horn grips bound with twisted silver wire at the base, and engraved silver quillons with bud-shaped terminals, in original black leather-covered wooden scabbard with silver locket engraved en suite with the hilt and with applied star and crescent, and associated gold-damascened chape (worn and damaged); the last with earlier curved finely watered blade cut with panels containing Arabic inscriptions on each side of the forte, white metal hilt (repaired) chased with foliage, and vertically recurved quillons linked to the pommel by knuckle-chains, in original scabbard covered with embossed and chased white metal
