An Unusual Sabre With Indian Jade Hilt
18th Century, probably East European
With earlier curved fullered single-edged blade widening and double-edged at the point, spinach green jade hilt inlaid in silver with flowering foliage, and silver-gilt quillon-block struck with a mark on one side and cast and chased in relief with rococo ornament involving a scallop-shell on each side, in velvet-covered wooden scabbard (velvet renewed) with original silver-gilt locket, chape and suspension mount cast and chased en suite with the quillons, the last with two rings for suspension
